I have tried many types of plant markers over the years and it seems that they are always removed by an entire neighborhood's worth of adventurous children who congregate in my garden and whisk the sweetly-named garden markers away to be used as digging implements in the never-ending quest for dinosaur bones...
This time around, I am using river stones labeled with a paint marker. These, to my eyes, look absolutely unworthy for use as diggers. We shall see.
Follow up: It seems that if your markers are in dirt rather than grass, the paint may be abraded after repeated waterings. I suggest coating your markers with outdoor Mod Podge for longevity.
